Chocolate Fun Folds

I played with a new stamp set and coordinating dies the past couple days. I can’t get enough of the Nothing’s Better Than bundle.

I played with some Fancy Folds too. The one on the left is a W card (#1) and The right is a box card (#2).

Here I have a flip flap card (#3),  diorama card (#4), and a portrait step card (#5)

Added a few cocktails today. Left to right, book fold (#6), portrait window card (#7), basic card (#8), landscape window card (#9),
and landscape step card (# 10).

Below I have posted individual cards so you can see more detail.

#1 - W card
I used all 4 of the ‘C’ words on this one.

#2 - box card.  This card folds flat and fits into the standard envelope. If you aren’t mailing it but maybe leaving on someone’s desk, you could put some chocolate candies in the box.

#3 Flip flap card. The square with the chocolates is a flap that will flip when you pull the ribbon.

The flap flips over and reveals the sentiment.

#4 diorama card. Very easy to make

# 5 portrait step card  Just some scoring and cutting.

# 6 Book fold. Basically just adding a score line 3/4 inch from the center fold.   The narrow strip on the left is adhered to keep it flat when the card is Opened.

#7 portrait window card. The window allows you to see the chocolate candies ....

Which are on the inside of the card.

# 8 basic portrait card

A nice touch to stamp on the inside too.

#9 landscape window card. The cocktail peeping through the window ...

Was so easy to stamp with the filler stamps for the citrus slice, umbrella and drink.

#10 landscape step card. I have made myself templates for both portrait and landscape and plan to cut/score some card bases to have on hand for a quick WOW card.

Fun Flap Card

I saw the idea for this fun fold here . I tried several and know I will use this for many more cards.

This is Daffodil Delight card stock base with Bermuda Bay and Pumpkin Pie DSP.  The greeting is mounted on Pumpkin Pie card stock.

The flap is opened.  I’m thinking I might put a second square of Pumpkin Pie to cover up the back of the flap.

The card fully opened.  Plenty of room to add a personal note and the stamped confetti is a good guide to keep from writing where it could be seen from the card front.

Love this DSP - Best Dressed.  The card base is Petal Pink. I stamped a few Old Olive leaves and added flower a flower I had cut from the DSP.

Opened it reveals about fussy cut flower.  I think this is my favorite of the 3.

Another Best Dressed card.  The card stock is Blackberry Bliss and  Sweet Sugarplum. The images are from the Haute Couture stamp set.  The sentiment is from Fabulous Phrases.

And the inside of the  card.

Step it up cards

I made up some card kits for the neighborhood kids (and adults) to make and send. These were simple cards but then I decided to make some myself and step it up.

This is the first group.

The simple card uses Smoky Slate for the card base, Mango Melody and Crushed Curry for the scalloped circles. The stamps are from the March Paper Pumpkin kit and I used Smoky Slate ink.

To step it up I mounted it on a Crushed Curry card base and popped up the scalloped circles using dimensional.

To step it up again, I placed it on a white card base with the crushed curry mat.  I added the Crushed Curry crushed seam binding and out dimensionals between the scalloped circles,   I also added some clear raindrop embellishments from the paper pumpkin kit,

This is a close up of the raindrops.  I hope they add these to their annual catalog,

This is group 2.

The simple card is on Crushed Curry and uses Island Indigo and Sahara Sand card stock with some Island Indigo DSP.  The sentiment is from the Beautiful Moments Stamp set.

To step it up I mounted it on a Sahara Sand card base. I also popped up the sentiment with dimensionals.

To step it up again, I cut the DSP diagonally and added the Crushed Curry seam binding tied in a bow.  I also added some piercing to the corners on the right edge.

Here is a closeup of the paper piercing.

This is group 3.

The simple card is on Sahara Sand card base with Island Indigo card stock. The DSP is Pumpkin Pie. The sentiment is from the Beautiful Moments set.

To step it up I mounted it on Whisper White card base, popped up the sentiment on dimensionals, and added a Pumpkin Pie heart embellishment.

To step it up again I added Tangerine a Tango ribbon and some glittered dots. I also embossed the Sahara Sand mat with the fan embossing folder that coordinates with the design in the DSP.  I added dimensionals behind the DSP also.

Here is a closeup of the glitter dots.

It was fun designing the card kits and even more fun stepping up the cards.

Accordion Fold Cards

Saw a video on this at Shall We Stamp and had to try it.

Here are the two cards I made. The one on the left was the first and I used the dimensions from the video.  The other is my own dimensions.

Using the dimensions from the video.

Here is the card expanded. I tried to cut the DSP so it all matched up but made an error so just put them on as I could. I wasn’t found of the skinny strips on the three folded sections so started figuring out how to use the full 11 inches of a piece of card stock.

Here is my modified card using 4 1/4 by 11 inch piece of cardstock. I scored it at 1 1/4,  2, 2 3/4, 3 1/2, 7 1/2, 8 1/4, 9, 9 3/4.   Once the card is folded it is a really tight fit in the envelope because of the added bulk.  The next ones I make will use 4 x 11 inch piece of cardstock so the card will fit better.
The DSP is cut 1/8 inch less than the sections.  I will do a tutorial and add all the dimensions there.

Here is my card opened and if you look closely the design is all lined up between the sections. That took a little caution when cutting the DSP and keeping them all lined up but it was worth it to get that continuity in the finished product.

This is the note area on the back of the card.

And I wanted to share my painted storm door.

I used a recipe I found on Pinterest for the paint.  Of course I modified it a little 😊
I used 2/3 cup flour,  2/3 cup of water, and 1/3 cup Dawn detergent. I divided into 6 cups of a muffin pan and added paste food color.

This is the inside of the glass where I taped the window and painted.  I used makeup wedge sponges to do the painting and the muffin pan was perfect as I could place the sponges in the empty cups. I dabbed the paint on the glass but had some of it too thick and it kept running.  I had to keep dabbing it with paper towels to keep them from running together.
Once dried a little I removed the tape.

Waxed Paper Resist Technique

I saw a video on YouTube the other day with a technique that is new to me.   It is called Wax Paper Resist.  I tried  it first without checking the video.  Needless to say, I missed an important step.

To do the technique, you crumble up waxed paper and them emboss it with an embossing folder  Then sandwich the waxed paper between 2 sheets of cardstock, cover that with printer paper and run a hot iron over it for a few minutes.  Then rub ink over it an it makes a beautiful design.  Well, I forgot the iron piece and thought she had run it through the Big Shot again.  Result in green above.  So no design (I do use these later in the post.  Nothing goes to waste :-)

So then I checked the video and realized I need to use an iron.  I have this cute little craft iron I won many years ago from a scrapbook store that used to be here in town.  The owner had a drawing each month of everyone who had made a purchase (maybe over a certain amount) and the winner got a gift certificate.  I bought the iron with the gift certificate.  I had let it warm up while I worked with the waxed paper and it was warm but not super hot.  In the video I watched, she said she used a Low setting so I figured the iron was ready.  Result is in red in the photo above. Still no design.

I had to stop at that point and check something in the oven. When I got back the iron was HOT!!!  So, one more try.

That time worked.  As I rubbed on the ink the design came alive.  So much fun!  This was the Beautiful Brocade folder, but you can use almost any embossing folder that you have. I used sponges to ink my paper but you could use blending tools,  brayer, or whatever you have.
The ink colors are Mossy Meadow and Merry Merlot.

A closeup look at the design.  The photo does not do it justice.

And here are the cards I made with the successful waxed paper distress technique.

and I love the sentiment for the inside.   I was pleased with the cards but needed to find a home for the 'flop' pieces.  Not to worry.

I thought I would try some heat embossing.  The medallion is heat embossed.  I stamped the design in Versa-Mark.  Sprinkle on the embossing powder, and heat.   It really looks good on the sponged background.

This closeup shows the sheen from the heat embossing.

I used the green piece to make this card.   I heat embossed the leaves in black.  I also heat embossed the sentiment

Here you can see the sheen of the embossing.  The pictures below show my attemtps with different embossing folders and inks,
